Edifice Consultants, principal Architects for the 1,00,000 sft Schlumbeger project in Pune designed an office that had modern, unique Brooklyn patterned glass screens and doors. The challenge was not the Modern design, but the unique finish desired by the client on the aluminium profile. The client demanded a Natural wood finish for the glass partition sections instead of the traditional black or satin silver finish applied on aluminium profiles.
BACKGROUND
People now are working in a different and innovative environment. The wooden finish for the Glass partition systems was an opportunity for KUBIK to do something new and prove our excellence. Sampling of wooden finished profiles was arranged as a part of process. Our R&D department identified the best possible process to be done on our Aluminium profiles for the wooden finish.
ALTERNATIVES
Kubik as a brand is always equipped with a backup stock of Profiles, Hardware and accessories, but all of this was in standard the black and silver finish. A customized color was developed specially for Schlumberger and the section used was Ecoline 100. Alternatives were not considered as the section size and colour was pre-defined. An alternative cost and time efficient powder coating process was not considered as an option, and PVDF coating was opted.
SOLUTION
After numerous trials, perfection was achieved and then PVDF technology of coating the aluminium sections for wooden finish was adopted. Although powder coating was an option to achieve the same, which is much cost effective, still PVDF was opted for the required quality standards.
